Thiru. H. Ramanathan, MA

* He was a HWB (C) Holder
* He was the GL of Prathap Scout group(South Chennai) for more than 30 years
* Served as DC(S) for more than 25 years in south Chennai
* He was the classmate of Arignar. CN. Anna Durai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
* He was nicknamed as 26 letters (A-Z) as he had a very good writing skill
* Silver Elephant Awardee
* Served in State Head Quarters as Editor for monthly magazine.
* Served as SOC(S) and State Secretary for TN State for a period of time
* Always prefered to travel by cycle only.
* He bacame the EC member in the SHQ in 1954 itself.
* Attached to St. Johns Ambulance Brigade and held the highest post.
* A Trained First Aider and trainer and veteran in cub section
* Served in the district association in many capacities like Editor, secretary, DC, Vice President etc.

Tamil Versions of 'Scouting for Boys'

Scouting for Boys book is one of the most translated books of the world. We are proud to say that 4 translations have been made in Tamil Language out of which 3 books survives till date.

The first Ever Attempt in Tamil was done by Thiru. K.R. Ramabadhran of Trivancore Province in 1930.
He named the book as "Indhiya Vaalibha Saaraniyam".
The speciality of this book is that it has a foreword by the founder Lord Baden Powell himself. Dr. Annie Besant and Sir.C.P. Ramaswamy Iyer have also given their views in this book. Unfortunately the wrapper of the book is not available.

The next attempt was made in 1950 to 60 and not even one copy of it is available.

Srilankan Scout Association translated the book in Tamil and is still under circulation with a number of editions. It is named as "Ilaignar Saraniyam". The Image contains the book printed in 1999.

The latest translation is done by Mr. B. Ramachandran, LT (S), the present State Training Commissioner of Tamil Nadu state. The Book is named as "Siruvar Saaraniyam". Two copies of this book has been kept at Gilwell Park Library in London.

William Hill Court (Green Bar Bill)

William Hillcourt (August 6, 1900 – November 9, 1992), also popularly known within the Scouting movement as "Green Bar Bill" and "Scoutmaster to the World", was an influential leader in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) organization for much of the 20th century, acclaimed as "the foremost influence on development of the Boy Scouting program."[1] Hillcourt is especially noted as a prolific writer and teacher in the areas of woodcraft, troop and patrol structure, and training. His written works include three editions of the BSA's widely circulated official Boy Scout Handbook, with over 12.6 million copies printed, other Scouting-related books and numerous magazine articles. Hillcourt developed and promoted the American adaptation of the Wood Badge program, the premier adult leader training program of Scouting.

Hillcourt was Danish, but moved to the United States as a young adult and worked for the BSA. From his start in Danish Scouting in 1910 through his death in 1992, he was continuously active in Scouting. He traveled all over the world teaching and training both Scouts and Scouters, earning many of Scouting's highest honors. His legacy and influence can still be seen today in the BSA program and in Scouting training manuals and methods for both youth and adults.
